General Pants Summer Campaign

Project: Summer of Love
Client: General Pants Co.

Frost* Design Sydney was approached by General Pants Co. to create their Summer 2007 campaign. One of the main objectives was to grow their female 20-25 market while also continuing to build on their strong male customer base.
The campaign is based around capturing iconic summer moments while also evoking the General Pants brand positioning of ‘disrupting the average’. The result is a modern take on the “Summer of Love”.
Working with international fashion photographer Pierre Toussaint and the General Pants team, Frost created a series of raw and edgy black and white images, which are coupled with copylines heralding back to the heydays of 60s and 70s psychedelia and rock.
The campaign will be seen on outdoor in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, as well as featuring in magazines such as Vice and Oyster, and appearing in General Pants windows and stores.

traveNT.com outdoor supersite campaign

Client: Tourism Northern Territory
Date launched/finished: August 2007

The Northern Territory, or 'NT' as it is commonly known in Australia, is a natural wonderland, and the heart of Australia's outback. This outdoor poster, part of an ongoing branding campaign, targets the 'spirited' traveller' - those looking to get off the beaten track, challenge themselves with some serious adventure, reconnect with nature and themselves.
The awe-inspiring natural landscapes of the Northern Territory (NT) are perfect for the high impact outdoor sites selected for this campaign - airports, city central and major freeways. With a target audience that loves to plan their holidays online, the web address was the ideal headline, also given most people may only have a couple of seconds at best to soak up the message.

Darwin VIBRANT Campaign – integrated Print/Online

Client: Tourism Northern Territory
Date launched/finished: August 2007

Darwin is the capital of the Australia's Northern Territory. Known mostly for its steamy tropical weather and crocodiles, the campaign and this microsite aimed to position Darwin alongside other great Australian summer destinations such as Noosa and Port Douglas, by talking directly with the locals to reveal the wealth of cultural and natural experiences on offer. For our particular target audience, termed the 'spirited traveller' - those interested in genuine cultural engagement, adventures in awe-inspiring natural landscapes and who plan their holidays online, a strong digital campaign and microsite, spearheaded by a big splash in the weekend magazines became the optimum media mix.

In Australia 'NT' is synonymous with the Northern Territory. The use of 'NT' words is an ongoing creative campaign tool used to send a simple compelling message regarding the attributes of a destination - in the case of Darwin - vibraNT.

Katherine ‘ENTICING’ press campaign

Client: Tourism NT
Date launched/finished: August 2007

The Northern Territory, or 'NT' as it is commonly known in Australia is a natural wonderland, and the heart of Australia's outback. This advert, part of an ongoing branding campaign, targets the 'spirited' traveller' - those looking to get off the beaten track, challenge themselves with some serious adventure, reconnect with nature and themselves. This advert is one of a series utilising 'NT' words to deliver a simple yet compelling reason to travel to Australia's outback, the Northern Territory. In this case ‘eNTicing’.
Central to all Tourism Northern Territory marketing is the theme of storytelling – a long held tradition in this part Australia. Stories (often excerpts) from Territorians are always used in adverts to fulfil the invitation tagline of ‘share our story’ and deliver a key secondary message – in this case challenge the notion of going overseas, in favour of visiting your ‘own backyard’.

The NT Mental Map

Client: Tourism NT
Date launched/finished: August 2007

As part of a partnership agreement between Tourism Northern Territory and News Ltd, Tourism Northern Territory were given the opportunity to create an interactive panel that would sit on the news.com.au website for 12 months.
The creative concept aimed to create a 'mental map' of the Northern Territory in the potential visitors’ mind. Research revealed many people found it hard to picture what a holiday could be like in the Northern Territory, the activities, experiences. Most only knew the icons of Uluru and Katherine Gorge.

Director's Cut Campaign and Promotional Collateral

Sydney Dance Company

'The Director's Cut' was a suite of three different performances to celebrate Graeme Murphy's 30 years with Sydney Dance Company. It was also a chance to promote the dance company's new logo, which we had also designed for them. When we started working on the project, the choreography and music had yet to be decided so the title was the main clue we had to work with. With the campaign identity, we used the idea of 'Cut' very theatrically - with dancers hanging off the letter 'C' and blood running down their arms. This sets up an interesting interaction between the typography and the photography, and was an opportunity to take an element directly from the new logo and incorporate it into the design. With the huge red 'C' and the '˜bleeding' dancer, the poster became extremely striking visually, and placed on bus shelters all around Sydney, was instantly recognisable and remembered.

NT Hip Guide

Tourism Northern Territory's role is to promote travel to Australia's outback - the Northern Territory (NT). Due to its sheer size, Tourism NT utilises a destination-based marketing strategy, this particular campaign focussing on the city of Darwin. Often overlooked for more traditional 'short break' holiday spots within Australia, the aim of this leaflet was to draw attention to Darwin's tropical climate and vibrant outdoor lifestyle as told through the eyes of locals.

Underland Campaign and Promotional Collateral

Sydney Dance Company

Sydney Dance Company had performed Underland many years earlier, so key to the brief was creating new interest in the production without discarding positive associations from the past. We were given two elements to work with as the basis for creating a new campaign - a still from the production and a 'logo' from previous posters. So much of the challenge was creating something new out of a very limited range of base material that had been used before. With music composed by Nick Cave, the campaign needed to appeal to a young audience, focusing on the contemporary 'rock' genre as a theme. Our solution was based on using handwriting to pull together all the elements and to create a memorable image right for the market. The campaign identity was implemented across a wide range of collateral including posters, programs, invitations and advertising.

April Films - Jindabyne Campaign Key Art, Poster and Website Design

A film by Ray Lawrence, Jindabyne is a powerful and original film about the things that haunt us. On an annual fishing trip in isolated country, four men find a dead girl's body and it is too late in the day for them to report their find. The next day, instead of making the long trek back they continue fishing. When they finally return, all hell breaks loose over their decision. The key art needed to hint at the themes while at the same time showcasing the film's two international stars. By using a water overlay with moody portraits of the two actors, we were able to literally reference the importance of water in the film while also playing with the idea of what lies beneath.
